Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The Government of West Java has apportioned Rp20 billion for market operations to ensure that prices of basic necessities remain under control during Ramadan.

"Yesterday, we met with Bulog (State Logistic Agency). This operation is being conducted through our joint efforts with the West Java government. We have distributed Rp20 billion of the budget for this year's market operation," West Java Trade and Industry Office Head Muhammad Arifin Soedjayana remarked here on Thursday.

The Government of West Java had, since 2012, conducted market operation during the fasting month, and the same practice will ensue this year too, concurrently across 27 districts and cities during the second week of Ramadan.

Soedjayana confirmed that the province's 215 thousand poor families were the target audience in the operation.

"The market operation will cover chicken, beef, cooking oil, sugar, rice, and eggs," he noted.

Soedjayana was equally optimistic that budget absorption for market operations in 2019 will rise as compared to 90 percent recorded in 2018.
