Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana performed Eid al-Fitr prayers in the yard of the Main Building of the Bogor Presidential Palace on Thursday.

The head of state wore a white long-sleeved shirt, batik sarong, and black cap, while the First Lady was seen in a light brown prayer gown.

Both the President and First Lady, who wore mask in keeping with the health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, arrived at the Eid al-Fitr prayer venue at 6:16 a.m. local time.

The Eid al-Fitr prayer commenced at 6:36 a.m. local time, with Second Sergeant Ridwan Payopo acting as imam of the prayer. Payopo is known as a member of the private presidential private guard team 1 of Group A of the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).

In his sermon, Payopo stated that performing religious deeds and services at home and accepting reality amid the pandemic was one of the ordeals by Allah SWT.

“We must be patient to accept this reality. Basically, what we do is nothing apart from complying with Allah, the messenger, ulemas, and authorized parties to save human beings from the threat of this disease outbreak,” he stated.

Speaking in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic that has protracted during the holy month of Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr festivities this time, Payopo expressed hope that Ramadhan would make everything better than earlier.

“Hence, in the midst of this heavier challenge, we have always striven to maintain routine activities during Ramadhan,” he stated.

The Eid al-Fitr prayer was held in keeping with stringent health protocols, including maintaining physical distance and checking temperature of the congregation members.

Also partaking in the Eid al-Fitr prayer were Paspampres Commander Major General Agus Subiyanto; Chief of the Press, Media, and Information Bureau at the Presidential Secretariat Erlin Suastini; Commander of Paspampres’ Group A Colonel Inf. Anan Nurakhman; assistant to presidential adjutant Adjunct Commissioner Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah; and member of the presidential private security guard 1st First Lieutenant Windra Sanur.
