Jakarta (ANTARA) - The genuine victory on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr this year is shielding beloved people from the spread of COVID-19, according to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

“I understand that celebrating victory amid the pandemic is not easy. However, we will emerge as a genuine winner when we successfully protect our beloved ones from COVID-19 transmission by refraining from embarking on an Eid al-Fitr homebound trip,” the minister remarked while delivering an online Eid al-Fitr message from Jakarta on Thursday.

Eid al-Fitr is the day of victory for Muslims after fasting for a month, Sadikin affirmed.

However, Eid al-Fitr this time was different for Muslims on account of the homecoming trip ban, according to the minister.

“Hence, we are unlikely to extend silaturrahim (communal bonds) as usual in order to thwart the transmission of COVID-19,” Sadikin noted.

To keep in touch with their families in villages, the minister suggested that the people utilize communication technology apparatuses as part of the efforts to uphold silaturrahim.

“I, Budi Sadikin, along with the extended family of the Health Ministry wish (Indonesian Muslims) Eid-al-Fitri. We are sorry physically and spiritually,” he remarked.
