Of course, this is our main priorityJakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has said that the police force is committed to providing the best services to ensure a safe, comfortable, and healthy Eid al-Fitr exodus for the people.
"Of course, this is our main priority," he said in a video shared with reporters here on Tuesday.
The Indonesian government has issued a policy allowing people to take part in the exodus and celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families in their hometowns, Prabowo noted.
With the government allowing people to visit their hometowns for Eid, it is predicted that a large number of people will join the exodus, he said
Based on the Ministry of Transportation's survey, 85 million people are expected to take part in the homecoming exodus. Of the 85 million people, 23 million will likely use cars and 17 million will use motorcycles.
"This number is very large, and of course, it has the potential to cause congestion on the exodus routes," the police chief said.
To prevent traffic congestion during the exodus, the National Police and all relevant parties have made arrangements using traffic engineering, such as by implementing the odd-even traffic rule, one-way traffic plan, and others, he added.
"Polri also appeals to people to use other public transportation (modes), such as planes, trains, to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads," he said.
The Police Chief advised people to use alternative routes such as the northern coast route and the southern coast route and depart earlier, on April 25–27, 2022, to avoid congestion.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, he reminded people that it has not ended yet. Thus, people must continue to comply with the health protocols and get the booster shot for COVID-19 without delay.
To help people get the booster shot, the police will provide vaccination services at all security posts, service posts, and integrated posts along the exodus routes.
