All the handling must be done consistentlyKarawang, W Java (ANTARA) - The handling of the flow of the 2022 Eid exodus should be consistent, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said during a visit to a rest area on KM 57, Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, on Tuesday.
"Today, we have received presentations on the exodus handling from four traffic directorates, which are from Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, and West Java," Sumadi informed.
According to the minister, all plans for handling the Eid exodus in the regions should be carried out in accordance with what has been discussed by several parties, especially the National Police and related ministries.
To that end, he appealed that the handling of exodus through strategies such as the odd-even plate number restriction and the one-way and contraflow policies be done consistently.
"All the handling must be done consistently," he said.
Furthermore, the Transportation Minister advised the public to not travel on motorcycles as they are deemed dangerous.
He also asked companies in Karawang region to organize free exodus programs to reduce the number of residents traveling home on motorcycles.
"We encourage companies to hold free homecomings. We think the cost is not too expensive, it is very helpful for employees who are going home," he said.
During his visit to the rest area on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, he was accompanied by National Police chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy; and Public Works and Public Housing Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono.
Meanwhile, Prabowo urged people to use public transportation modes such as planes and trains to reduce traffic congestion.
The Transportation Ministry recently predicted that about 85 million people will participate in the Eid exodus.
