State-owned airport operator AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin acknowledged that transportation during the 2022 Eid had posed a challenge on account of no Eid homecoming for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Close collaboration among AP II, regulators, airlines, ground handling staff, flight navigation service providers, the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), and other stakeholders had helped all AP II airports to serve passengers," Awaluddin noted in a press statement, Wednesday.
The president director later remarked that Soekarno-Hatta Airport, as the largest and busiest airport in Indonesia, had managed to handle 1.36 million passengers aboard 10,989 flights.
The top five destinations from Soekarno-Hatta Airport during the April 22 - May 4 period were Denpasar, Medan, Makassar, Surabaya, and Pontianak.
Awaluddin remarked that AP II had managed to collaborate with stakeholders in terms of adjusting airport and airline operational patterns, setting flight time slots, optimizing aircraft movements on the airside of the airport, ensuring speed and accuracy in handling passengers at the terminals, as well as optimizing ground handling.

"Through this collaboration, we are able to accommodate the high demand for Eid transportation in 2022 while still paying attention to the security, safety, and service aspects," he noted.
Awaluddin remarked that the smooth implementation could not be separated from the commitment of all AP II airport staff, who received direct instructions and encouragement from State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir.
In addition, the joint efforts to ensure the success of the 2022 Eid homecoming transportation at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport also drew applause from Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi.
During his visit to review Soekarno-Hatta's preparations ahead of the Eid homecoming, Sumadi noted that airport operators, facilities, and flight navigation operators were quite concise and focused in collaborating to meet the passengers' demand.
"With fewer facilities, it can create a lot of movement," Sumadi remarked.

Awaluddin noted that starting this Wednesday, all AP II airports are readying to handle the homecoming return flow.
The number of passengers on May 4 (D+2) is estimated to reach around 160 thousand, and this figure will increase until the peak of the return flow on May 7-9.
On May 7, the number of passengers at 20 AP II airports is estimated to reach 166,312, followed by 199,857 passengers on May 8, and 179,542 people on May 9.
During the homecoming return flow, AP II focuses on the smooth process of passenger arrivals, including arranging aircraft arrivals, baggage claim, and means of land transportation, such as buses and taxis.
“AP II urges travelers to go back before the return flow peaks on May 7-9. Early travel really helps the movement of passengers on a well-distributed return flow," he concluded.
