We will remain vigilant for the next month, yet I see that residents' adherence (to the health protocols) is still highBandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The effects of public mobility during this year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming period on the COVID-19 graph would become visible in 14 days, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has said.
He expressed the hope that there would be no COVID-19 surge despite congestion in many places during the exodus.
"I cannot say whether the homecoming period will be causal to (a COVID-19 case surge). According to a theory, we can only see (case fluctuations) in 14 days since now," Kamil said during a visit to Limbangan integrated checkpoint in Garut district, West Java, on Friday.
The governor affirmed that the authority will remain on alert over the next month to anticipate a possible COVID-19 spike in the region.
He also highlighted that residents' adherence to the health protocols, including wearing masks and taking vaccines before travel, has remained high throughout the exodus period.
"We will remain vigilant for the next month, yet I see that residents' adherence (to the health protocols) is still high," he noted.

The current bed occupancy rate for COVID-19 patients in the province is at a low 0.8 percent, the governor added.
He said that the readiness to transition from the pandemic to the endemic stage would be indicated by there being no significant increase in COVID-19 cases in the two weeks after the Eid al-Fitr exodus period.

"If 14 days have passed since Eid al-Fitr, yet our COVID-19 cases are still declining, then I can claim that we are ready for the endemic stage," Kamil added.
"We have seen significant traffic congestion during the return exodus, yet we see no COVID-19 case surge, no new COVID-19 variants emerging, and our bed occupancy rate remains low," the governor noted.
