The traffic of video conference and video call services, as digital platforms to maintain relationships (silaturahmi), will hike since many users are not able to participate in the homecoming exodus and visit their families.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cellular operator XL Axiata has projected video call service to account for most traffic on the internet during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“The traffic of video conference and video call services, as digital platforms to maintain relationships (silaturahmi), will hike since many users are not able to participate in the homecoming exodus and visit their families,” Director and Chief Technology Officer of XL Axita I Gede Darmayusa wrote in a press release here on Wednesday.
XL Axiata has forecast that the data service traffic will climb on an average of 20 percent, comprising the utilization of music and video streaming, instant messages, games, and social media.
As a precautionary measure to handle the spike in internet traffic, XL Axiata has set to regulate internet traffic towards the upstream direction to Malaysia and Australia up to 1.5 times and utilize two Australian and Singaporean exchanges.
XL Axiata has observed as many as 800 location points of public mobility centers, including shopping centers, tourism spots, and worship houses.
Moreover, XL Axiata continues to optimize the network along the toll roads of Java and Sumatra, airports, seaports, intercity bus terminals, and train stations albeit the homecoming ban, Darmayusa noted.
XL Axiata has deployed 40 mobile BTS units at the locations with high traffic internet.
Meanwhile, Smartfren has projected data traffic services to clock a growth of 24.5 percent after a restriction on public activities following the homecoming ban.
Since last month, Smartfren has boosted its network capacity and coverage up to 25 percent higher as compared to last year during the corresponding period of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, especially for residential areas.
Precautionary measures have already been taken to handle the hike in network use by forming a special team during Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr. A total of 58 mobile BTS units, supported by NOC, are operational round the clock.
