From a total of 85.5 million homecomers (nationally), those who will leave for West Java is around 14.9 million
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - At least 14.9 million homecomers will travel to their hometowns in the West Java area as part of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus, West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil has informed.

"From a total of 85.5 million homecomers (nationally), those who will leave for West Java is around 14.9 million. They are West Java residents," he said here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, an estimated 9.2 million West Java residents will return to their hometowns within the province or to other provinces.

The government will implement Level 1 alertness during the exodus to anticipate the high number of participants, the governor said.

He affirmed that as many as 500 command posts will be installed by the West Java provincial government, in collaboration with the West Java Regional Police, for the exodus.

Meanwhile, deputy chief of the West Java Regional Police, Brig. Gen. Bariza Sulfi, said there are three trends in relation to the 2022 Eid travel in West Java region.

"There are three trends for the homecoming exodus (period) in West Java this year. The first is West Java as a homecoming destination, the second is West Java as a homecoming route, and the third is West Java as a tourist destination," he expounded.

According to Sulfi, the three trends should serve as guidelines for handling the flow of Eid travelers so that the implementation can run smoothly.

This year, taking note of the improvement in the COVID-19 situation, the Indonesian government has allowed people to travel to their hometowns to celebrate Eid.The trips will be allowed as long as prospective homecomers complete their primary and booster vaccinations.

The Transportation Ministry has estimated that 85.5 million citizens, or 31.6 percent of the total population, will take part in the Eid homecoming exodus.
