Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry commended the launch of the electronic guidebook for the 2022 Eid homecoming exodus titled "Mudik Aman dan Sehat" (Safe and Healthy Homecoming Exodus) that serves as a reference for exodus participants.

"This collaboration is really good. If back then there was a pocketbook, now, it is in a digital form, so that it is more accessible," Transportation Minister's Expert Staff for Communication, Thonthowi Djauhari, stated during an online discussion titled "Smart Homecomers, Smooth Eid Homecoming" accessed here on Monday.

Djauhari noted that the e-book, arranged through collaboration among the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, the Ministry of Transportation, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), can offer guidance to homecomers during the homecoming exodus.

He noted that people can obtain information related to policies, travel schedules, traffic scenarios, culinary, as well as health tricks and tips in the guidebook.

He remarked that the government is making efforts to ensure the Eid homecoming activities are safe and aimed at curtailing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

According to the ministry's survey, 85.5 million citizens will partake in the Eid homecoming exodus and 47 percent of them are estimated to travel by using land transportation.

The number of homecomers from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi is projected to reach 14.3 million people and the number of homecomers is forecast to increase by around 45 percent as compared to the number in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, taking note of the improvement in the COVID-19 situation, the Indonesian government has allowed people to travel to their hometowns to celebrate Eid.

The trips will be allowed as long as prospective homecomers complete their primary and booster vaccinations. Those who have not received the booster dose are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result.
