Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Police has estimated that about 3.6 million people have left Jakarta in four-wheeled vehicles to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in their respective hometowns, such as in Java or Sumatra.

"If looking at the statistics of vehicles leaving Jakarta as of today (April 28, 2022): the number was around 74 thousand yesterday (April 27), and if totaled from the seventh day leading to Eid, there were 900 thousand vehicles which left Jakarta, and if each vehicle has four people inside, then about 3.6 million (people)," Jakarta Police chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, said while reviewing Cikampek Toll Gate on Thursday.

Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, about 7 million people will leave Jakarta during the Eid al-Fitr holiday season in 2022, Imran added.

"According to a statistical survey of the Transportation Ministry, people who will leave Jakarta in four-wheeled vehicles are about 7 million, so (the number of people leaving Jakarta as of April 28) is already more than half of the estimate," he said.

According to data from state highway operator PT Jasa Marga, at least 951,758 vehicles have left Jakarta from the tenth to fifth day leading to Eid, or April 22–27.

The figure from Jasa Marga was cumulated from the number of traffic flow at four Barrier/Main Toll Gates (GT), GT Cikupa (to Merak), GT Ciawi (to Puncak), GT Cikampek Utama, and GT Kalihurip Utama (to Trans Java and Bandung).

The total volume of traffic leaving the Jabotabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi) region rose to 870,371 vehicles, an increase of 9.4 percent compared to normal traffic in November 2021.

Specifically, around 471,044 vehicles (49.5 percent) left Jakarta toward the east direction (Trans Java and Bandung), 289,122 vehicles (30.4 percent) headed west (Merak), and 191,592 vehicles (20.1 percent) headed to the south (Puncak).
