Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Lt. Gen. Suharyanto and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy departed for Garut District, West Java, on Friday morning.

Suharyanto and Effendy visited the area to inspect or observe the Eid exodus activity conducted in Garut and the surrounding areas ahead of the 2022 Eid Al-Fitr in order to ensure that it proceeded in an orderly and safe manner.

The duo departed from the Pondok Cabe Airport aboard a helicopter at 8:30 a.m. local time. According to plan, the around 90-minute-long air journey would conclude at the Pasopati Field, Limbangan, Garut, where they would be greeted by Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan and the coordinating regional leadership forum.

Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Lt. Gen. Suharyanto and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy also conducted inspection in Bakauheni, Lampung, on Thursday, April 28. On the occasion, their entourage comprised Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Dwikorita Karnawati, and Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Hendra Gunawan.

Ministries and agencies have expressed concern over the the Bakauheni-Merak crossing and vice versa as the route, connecting Java and Sumatra, was at risk of being affected by disaster due to Anak Krakatau's activities.

Through direct aerial reviews, it was ascertained that the mount's elevated alert status to level III did not have a direct adverse impact on the Bakauheni-Merak crossing's shipping owing to several factors, such as decreased eruptive activity, islands functioning as cushions to reduce tsunamis, and the relatively long distance between Anak Krakatau Mountain and the crossing area.

Nonetheless, Suharyanto urged the public to always exercise caution and keep abreast of the latest information from the government related to the activities of Mount Anak Krakatau.

“This must be addressed wisely. Remain cautious, stay alert, but that does not mean that (you should let this thing) stir panic. The public must stay updated by obtaining information available on the government's official website to avoid hoaxes. I hope the people would stay calm," he concluded.
