Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged the public to return early or after the peak of the Eid exodus return traffic flow congestion that is forecast to occur from May 6 to May 8, 2022.

Sumadi remarked that the Semarang - Jakarta Toll Road and the Bakauheni - Merak port crossing were the two main points prone to traffic congestion during the return flow.

"Mr. President Joko Widodo pays attention to the handling of return flow, so that there would be no traffic density, by urging the public to return early before the peak, either on May 6, 7, or 8, 2022. If the leave can be extended, then people should go home after May 8," Sumadi explained here on Tuesday.

The transportation minister also advised the public to not use the rest areas on the toll road if they are full and to not stop on the roadsides, so that the return trip can be smoother.

According to Sumadi, in addition to endangering their and other road users' safety, stopping along roadsides can cause congestion.

"If tired, people can exit the toll road to reach the nearest city and can rest in prepared places. It is safer and freer," Sumadi stated.

He explained that several rest areas on the arterial road were readied by the local governments, police, and other related parties.

"Starting from the sub-district office, villages, police stations, and other places have been prepared as temporary rest areas," he pointed out.

He also appealed that the public can always obtain the latest information related to traffic schemes being applied from the official social media accounts belonging to toll road operators and police.

"We also appeal to drive well, to not barge ahead in the lanes, and obey the officers' instructions," he stated.
